Interviews with sympathetic fellow students and a teacher who is also a kathoey demonstrate the level of acceptance of his orientation at his Christian school Saint Joseph Mueang-Ake. This becomes most triumphantly clear when Tay appears at a school Christmas party in a beautiful red dress. But as his tearful mother explains, a single intolerant and violent teacher drove him to attempt suicide. Elsewhere in the film, we see Tay going about his daily life, traveling to and from school, and silently touching up his makeup in front of the mirror.

]]>This film is a piece of fiction, where a stranger comes to meet Gandhi, a night before his assassination and questions Gandhi’s ideology of ‘truth’ and ‘non-violence’, which is primarily based on theories derived from the revered Hindu holy book ‘Bhagawad Gita’.
The visitor not only nullifies Gandhi’s contributions and efforts for Indian independence but also blames him for all the woes and damages suffered by India and its people due to partition. He accuses Gandhi of making his countrymen suffer because of his blind faith in ‘truth’ and ‘non-violence’. Both Gandhi and the stranger are ardent believers of Bhagawad Gita and use the same scripture to interpret the same situation differently.
This could also said to be the beauty of both the Hindu faith that allows you to see truth in many different ways and of the two men in question whose understanding and intelligence is amazingly inspiring and thought provoking.

]]>The growth of this crime is upsurge in India, happening day and every day. It also includes the plight of disfigurement which is known to be as root revenge reason against women and their beauty. It leads the victim to a stage of trauma which is physical and mental both.
The film focuses which makes the viewer introspect, “Is this a society we live in? Is this a way we treat people around us”. It stands as, that we first disfigure a human being and post we made them question about their disfigurement.
The film is a 2D hand drawn digital animation film, following a narrative with a story & spoken word poetry. Here the whole film describes about a woman who is a survivor of an acid attack. She wants to have tea, but she finds that the tea box falls empty. She thinks that she can go out and buy a tea box. Is it possible for her to go out and buy a tea box? As her earlier experiences made her describe the inability to just move out of her house. It depicts the situation of how people react on seeing her and along how she manages to live her daily life.
This film was conceived after Ms. Preethi Rathi was acid-attacked in Bandra Terminus, Mumbai (India) on 1st May 2013. She died of major acid injury just a month after the attack. The film is made as a student film project under Department of Film Design & animation, Industrial Design Centre IIT Bombay, Mumbai (India).

]]>It runs like a big family, where the teachers understand each child's unique personality and quirks, and the kids are mischievous, curious and warm. They come from a mix of backgrounds. Some are from loving families who know their child has a chance of learning with the special support and encouragement the school gives. Others are from families who have abandoned them.
In order to care for and teach the 70 or so students it has, Abdi Kasih relies on donations, sponsorship and other kinds of help and partnerships.
And while the school will always welcome any kind of help it can get, be it in the form of donations, materials or knowledge, there's one thing the staff are already experts at: serving with love.

Three years later, a few blind runners joined in and encouraged their peers to run too.
Runninghour now has nearly 400 members and has created ripples of good for all involved.
Not only has it provided a way for often reclusive people with special needs to do some exercise outdoors and mingle with their peers, it has given them a vehicle to integrate into mainstream society.
None of it would be possible without volunteers.
They come from all walks of life, and with all levels of fitness. Some pairs have achieved their personal bests together, and others are experiencing a renewed level of fitness they hadn't felt in a long time.

Even we know that these investments are fraught of risks, we still cannot stand the failure from these games. ]]>Comments by Dr Khoo Gaik Cheng, University of Nottingham - Malaysia: State of Things was made in response to the “Emergency Filmmaking Project: RSVP” organised by Substation in which filmmakers were asked to respond to the state of the world or their immediate environment using digital video. Ong elicits responses from young Singaporeans by giving them two lines on a piece of paper that the film audience isn’t privy to. Many of the respondents only have a vague idea of what the two lines mean. As the audience, we feel our way around the unprovided message like a blind and curious person. In trying to piece together the responses, we are all too aware that it is something uncannily familiar, something learnt in school, whose message is fundamentally idealistic in its nationalist conception but somehow far removed from the reality of most young Singaporeans. It is this ignorance, this game of hidden truths that the filmmaker plays with his audience which needs close scrutiny: ultimately, Ong asks viewers why there is such a gap of comprehension between the meaning of the two lines given and the conjectured meanings that some of the respondents offer. Without giving the game away, let me say that Ong is gesturing toward the marginalisation of minority language in Singapore, a marginalisation made all the more poignant by his deliberate choice of performers at the film’s conclusion. Still, I believe a much broader social context for the interviews would help strengthen the filmmaker’s point about the state of ethnic relations in Singapore today.

In July 2012, Joses Kuan, Bernice Wong and me went to Bangladesh to collect the stories of our migrant worker friends. We wanted to delve deeper than what we perceived on the streets, so we headed to their homes to find out more.

Using only the sounds they create with their mouths, lips, tongues and voices, these kids produce drumbeats, rhythm and musical sounds. Martin and his peers see beatboxing as an art form in its own right and hold competitions that test their rhythmic and creative skills. In this light-hearted documentary, they also take to the streets, where they challenge three older gentlemen to take up the art of beatbox.

'Lastik' is part of Red Comm and Astro's My Hometown Series 2012. In conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day, a director from each Malaysian state was chosen to produce a short film about their hometown. 'Lastik: Once Upon a Time in the East' represents the East Malaysian state of Sabah.

]]>Driven by naivety and his shallow understanding of secret societies, Hao Nan's chance encounter with Ming of Red Luck Gang inspires him and makes him realise that there is a more effective way of dealing with injustice in life, including classmates who are constantly jealous of Hao Nan and always bully him. Soon after, Ming introduces Hao Nan to Hei Ge, the leader of Red Luck Gang. Impressed by ethics and philosophy of the gang, Hao Nan secretly hopes to join it in order to use its influence to avenge his father’s death. However, Hei Ge is reluctant to accept Hao Nan as yet, at least not until he can first prove himself worthy of the gang.
As Hao Nan gets closer to Red Luck Gang with each passing day, he soon discovers that beneath the façade lies brutal violence and betrayal that are contrary to the glorious and dignified image of the gang.
Will Hao Nan’s deepened desire to avenge his father outweigh his innermost conscience and dictate his actions?
